BURNING PASSION ON FIRE AT RANDWICK!
Owning shares in racehorses takes patience, persistence and plenty of luck. Last Saturday at Randwick, none of these applied to recently acquired Burning Passion when he saluted in the 5th race over 1200m
in an effortless display, on the very wet surface, picking up $48,750 for his new owners.
Burning Passion, a strapping son of Northern Meteor and full brother to Group 1 winner 'Romantic Touch', was purchased at the Inglis Autumn Sale as Lot 133 for just $24,000 from the dispersal sale of Gooree Stud.
Burning Passion had just 11 starts under Gooree Stud for 1 win and and 5 placings and showed some good promise under young gun trainer - James Cummings.
James didn't want to see the gelding go from his stables and recommended we purchase the lightly raced 4YO. Purchased for just $24,000+GST, Burning Passion was quickly syndicated and has now raced 3 times for his new owners, in the Darby Racing colours, for an unplaced run at Canterbury (no luck), a 2nd at Randwick 4 weeks ago beaten a nose and on a Saturday, an emphatic win at Randwick.
Our owners have netted $65,950 in just 3 starts since purchasing on May 6 2016. This quick return on investment looks to be only the beginning if Saturday is anything to go by.
Burning Passion, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, sat 3 wide the trip outside the leader. Rounding the turn, there was only one horse you wanted be on as Burning Passion was cruising over the heavy 9 surface. Kerrin released the brakes putting 3.5 lengths on the field and eased down over the last 50m to win the Benchmark 83 race in the greatest of ease. Trainer James Cummings who has done an outstanding job to keep Burning Passion fresh and firing was delighted.
At this time of year with the tracks predominantly rain affected, there looks to be many more wins in store for Burning Passion and his owners.
