Burning Passion continues to FIRE

November 16, 2016

One of the best story's of 2016 for Darby Racing and our owners, besides the feats of multiple Group 1 winner Yankee Rose, is the rise of the ever consistent $24K purchase, Burning Passion, from the tried Inglis horse sale back in May.

Purchased on the advise of astute young gun trainer, James Cummings, Burning Passion was a Gooree Stud cast off having had 11 starts for just one win and a handful of placings. Impeccably bred, Burning Passion is by the ill fated sprint sensation - Northern Meteor and the half brother to Group 1 winner - Shared Reflection, he also is directly related to Desert War and Laser Hawk.

I recall that James still believed that there were wins left in Burning Passion when advising Darby Racing that we should consider purchasing him to syndicate. James also made his case that he was going to train him differently this time in, spacing his runs, believing this could really help turn his form around.

We took his advice to purchase Burning Passion and the rest as they say is history. Syndicated overnight for $1,990 for a 5% share, Burning Passion capped off a remarkable preparation last Saturday with a terrific win at Rosehill over the 1300m journey. Lumping the huge weight of 61kgs and positioned perfectly by Tim Clark, Burning Passion never looked in trouble winning for the first time on a good track as his liking had been to rain affected tracks.

Burning Passion raced 7 times this preparation for his new ownership group, for 3 Saturday metro wins, 2 metro Saturday 2nds a 4th and an unplaced start for just over $190,000 in stakes earnings. Not bad a bad return on investment in a short period.

Burning Passion will now be spelled and targeted at next years Brisbane winter carnival, hoping for his much loved wet tracks that sees him to advantage. James Cummings is doing a remarkable job with this gelding and continues to rise through the training ranks with outstanding results.

A Darby Racing horse that looks to be on a sharp rise!

Congratulations once again to all his owners
