Newnham Giving Sherry Every Chance In Group 1 Debut
Trainer Mark Newnham has never got ahead of himself when it comes to the careers of his apprentices so the fact he’s handed Tom Sherry his first Group 1 ride on Every Rose at Randwick on Saturday shouldn’t go unnoticed. When Josh Parr, who rode Every Rose to victory first-up, elected to ride Oaks bound stablemate Miravalle in the Group 1 $500,000 Cellarbrations Surround Stakes (1400m) there was no hesitation from Newnham in giving Sydney’s leading apprentice the reins. Into The Fire goes back-to-back at Tyers Park for trainer Bjorn Baker
INTO The Fire lit up Tyers Park as he led all the way on his path towards back-to-back victories at the Bathurst track. Bjorn Baker's runner, ridden by Kathy O'Hara, started brilliantly from barrier five and crossed with ease to take up the running from the get-go in the Kennards Hire CG&E Class 1 Handicap (1,108 metres). Major Murphy loomed up to the outside of Into The Fire with 400m to run and O'Hara had the whip out on her runner before jockey Rory Hutchings next to her.
Every Rose blooms in Light Fingers for Newnham
Every Rose (Choisir) has accounted for a field of classy fillies in a tough, on-paced resuming performance in the G2 Light Fingers S. at Randwick. The Mark Newnham-trained 3-year-old was set a task after drawing the outside barrier 14, but was quickly taken to the front by Joshua Parr. From there, Parr was able to dictate the tempo and rated his mount perfectly. The resuming Never Talk (No Nay Never {USA}) made for a thrilling finale, flashing home from the rear to finish a n

It's In The Blood
Sometimes looks can be deceptive. But sometimes results can be too, especially when there’s a learned eye involved. Linda Monds, who bought the famed Tyreel Stud in 2014 and became the breeder of Everest (1200m) winner Classique Legend (Not A Single Doubt), went to the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale in 2016 to expand her breeding stock. Among others, she had her eye on a mare named Couredge (Show A Heart). She’d done precious little on the track, claiming a Wyong maiden in

Harmony Sets Out On Newnham's Proven Oaks Path
Over the past few years trainer Mark Newnham has developed a knack for bringing a filly quickly through the grades to be a force in an Oaks and that’s the trajectory he hopes promising filly Harmony Rose is on. It’s not a new revelation, Newnham did flag at the end of Harmony Rose’s first preparation in the spring he had designs on the Australian Oaks so there’s a level of expectation for her return in the TAB Handicap (1400m) at Kensington on Wednesday. She’s currently a $26

Stuart Kendrick's Sydney cast-off eyeing hat-trick at Doomben
Trainer Stuart Kendrick believes Sydney cast-off Foreign Territory can complete a hat-trick of wins if the gelding runs at Doomben on Thursday. Kendrick has warned punters Foreign Territory could be reserved for a Benchmark 78 race over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday if he decides against a Doomben start. “I’ll wait and see and have a good luck at the fields for Saturday first before deciding where he goes but if he runs at Doomben he’ll be very competitive,” Kendrick
