She Will Reign wins her trial

Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign tuned-up for her shot at the Group 1 Moir Stakes later this month with another blistering trial performance at Rosehill on Tuesday.

Trainer Gary Portelli said he was delighted with the morning's work and explained after the 900-metre trial that the filly's time of 52.90 seconds was notable.

"They don't break 53 (seconds) very often," Portelli said. "I've seen them run 53-and-a-half and thought that was fast but she ran 52-something.

"Everything went like clockwork this morning. She's her usual relaxed self. She did what she had to do.

"She's a pretty laconic horse these days and it was to see her hit the line good and she pulled up enormous."

She Will Reign was ridden on Tuesday morning by Kerrin McEvoy, who will partner She Will Reign in the Moir before handing back the reins to Ben Melham for her ultimate spring goal The Everest.

"He (McEvoy) just jumped on for feel. He was happy with the way she relaxed and happy with the way she quickened," Portelli said.

"I said 'it looked like it took a while for her to hit her top?' and he said 'no, I think it was the track. It was pretty rough'."

She Will Reign shapes as one of the stars of the spring but Portelli is aware of the legacy she brings into her three-year-old season as a Golden Slipper winner.

"She's just got to step-up now. The two-year-old hoodoo. We'll see if we can get rid of it," he said.

Portelli plans a hit-and-run raid on Melbourne with She Will Reign.

"She'll come down next Wednesday night and get there Thursday morning," he said. "We'll race her Friday night and get her home as fast as we can.

"We might even leave Saturday night or Sunday morning. We find the quicker you get them home, the less chance of anything going wrong and they love their own feed bin."
