Another Godolphin cast-off primed to win

Yesterday at Wyong, former Godolphin runner WANDER (Lonhro-Mayfield) came home like a runaway steam train to score for trainer Richard Litt.

“Man, these Godolphin horses have been keeping this stable going over the past few years. I love them,” said the rising young trainer.

It prompted Sky Racing’s Greg Radley to point out that several trainers rave about the Godolphin horses once they are resold. “Always in terrific condition, always sound and always still capable of winning races,” he said.

Well, almost serendipitously one of those Godolphin cast-offs heads to the twilight Kensington meeting today for new trainer Mark Newnham.

And he, MONTSERRAT (Not A Single Doubt-Sydney Rose) looks very well placed.

He contests race 3 over 1800m and at his last start, over this same track and trip, he was narrowly beaten into 2nd place.

Like Wander, he has been a money-earner for his new connections. Wander had won $60,000 when Godolphin decided to sell him and Litt has won a further $160,000 with him.

Montserrat sold to Darby Racing for $70,000 after Godolphin moved him on and if he wins at Kensington today he will have earned $60,000 of that back since joining Newnham’s stable…with more to come.

Hardest to beat today could be Lando Bay.

Montserrat is currently a $3.45 chance with Palmerbet.
