Sweet Embrace Stakes 2016: Scarlet Rain has the speed to overcome wide draw, says Gai Waterhouse
GAI Waterhouse highlighted one main asset Scarlet Rain possesses that could see the filly overcome an outside gate in Saturday’s Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
The daughter of Manhattan Rain is undefeated following two runs overs 1100m and 1000m — one on the dry and the other on wet ground.
“She’s bombproof this filly,” Waterhouse said. “One that hasn’t put a foot wrong so far. The best part about her is that high cruising speed she’s got and I think that will carry her a long way in this race.
“She jumps and just glides over the turf. I think she can win this and stamp herself as a Golden Slipper filly.”
From barrier 12 it appears Kathy O’Hara has her work cut out but Waterhouse says she isn’t fazed. “It won’t matter, she has the speed to cross and the strength to sustain it,” she said.
