Darby Racing Fires in a Winning Treble

Darby Racing continued its strong start to the new racing season on Sunday, celebrating a terrific winning treble courtesy of Defiance, Gambler and Imperial Royale, while Stormbringer also added to the day with a strong second at Nowra.
Defiance was arguably the most impressive of the three winners, producing a dominant performance at Nowra for trainer Luke Pepper.
With Brodie Loy in the saddle, Defiance took control of the race and put his rivals away in emphatic fashion. Loy was able to ease him down over the concluding stages and he still had more than three lengths to spare on the line.
It was another excellent performance from Defiance, who continues to race in terrific form.
The winners continued at the Sunshine Coast, where Gambler made the perfect start for his new trainer Jack Bruce.
Having his first start since joining the Bruce stable, Gambler wasted no time making an impression. With Taylor Marshall in the saddle, he produced a strong performance to get the job done and open his account for his new trainer at the first opportunity.
The day was completed back at Nowra by Imperial Royale, who produced a thrilling finish for trainer Bjorn Baker and jockey Jean Van Overmeire.
Imperial Royale looked to have plenty of work to do before unleashing a powerful finish, storming home to run down the favourite and get over the top of them late.
It was a terrific way to complete the treble and another rewarding day for the Darby Racing ownership groups.
There was also plenty of merit in the performance of Stormbringer, who ran a very good race to finish second at Nowra and was another strong performer for the team on the day.
A huge congratulations to all the owners involved with Defiance, Gambler and Imperial Royale, along with their trainers, jockeys, stable staff and everyone behind the scenes who contributes to getting these horses to the races in such great order.
The three victories take Darby Racing to 14 winners for the 2026/27 season, continuing an excellent start to the new campaign.
With plenty of horses coming through and the season still in its early stages, we look forward to building on that momentum in the weeks and months ahead.
