GOSFORD DOUBLE AS TEMPTATION AND FIFTYFIVECHEVY SALUTE

Darby Racing continued its strong start to the new season with a winning double at Gosford on Friday, with Temptation and Fiftyfivechevy both finding the winner’s stall.

The double took our tally to six winners for the 2026/27 season, with two very different performances getting the job done.

TIO BREAKOUGH IN STYLE

Promising three-year-old filly Temptation kicked off the double in Race 3 with a dominant maiden victory over 1100m.

Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Rachel King, Temptation went into the race as a short-priced favourite following an excellent debut at the same track earlier in the month, where she finished a close second.

This time there was never any doubt.

Rachel allowed the daughter of Lucky Vega to use her natural speed, taking up the running and controlling the race from the front. Turning for home, Temptation quickly put the race beyond her rivals, stretching clear to score by an impressive 3.58 lengths.

It was a performance that suggested there is plenty more to come.

Temptation had shown good ability well before making her race debut, winning both of her trials at Rosehill, and she has now taken that form to race day with a win and a second from her first two starts.

By Lucky Vega out of Wonderful Feeling, the filly has now earned $30,900 from just two appearances.

Congratulations to Bjorn and his team, Rachel King and, most importantly, our fantastic ownership group. She is a lovely young filly who looks capable of progressing through the grades.

IFTYFIVECHEVY GETS HIS NOSE DOWN

Race 5 provided a completely different type of victory, but one that was every bit as satisfying.

Fiftyfivechevy showed tremendous fight to win the 1600m Midway Benchmark 68 for trainers Mitchell Beer and George Carpenter and jockey Jean Van Overmeire.

The five-year-old son of Puissance de Lune was having his fourth start for the Beer and Carpenter stable after making the switch earlier this year.

From barrier seven, Jean took Fiftyfivechevy forward and had him travelling beautifully just behind the leader before taking control approaching the home turn.

From there it became a fight.

Fiftyfivechevy was challenged all the way to the line but refused to surrender, digging deep under pressure to prevail in a thrilling photo finish over Smart Cry.

The official margin was just 0.05 lengths, but a win is a win, and it was a terrific display of determination.

The victory was Fiftyfivechevy’s fourth career win, with three of those victories now coming over 1600m. His career earnings have moved beyond $117,000.

It was particularly pleasing to see him win for Mitch and George after the change of stable and a campaign that had included an encouraging second at Moruya earlier in the preparation.

Congratulations to Mitch, George, Jean and the entire ownership group who have remained patient with this tough grey.

NS AND COUNTING

The Gosford double continued a terrific opening month to the 2026/27 racing season, bringing up wins No. 5 and No. 6 for Darby Racing.

From an exciting three-year-old filly just beginning her career in Temptation to a tough and seasoned campaigner in Fiftyfivechevy, it was a great example of what racing is all about.

Most importantly, another two groups of Darby Racing owners were able to experience that winning feeling.
