No doubt on All-Star Mile credentials for group 1 winner Samadoubt

Bjorn Baker says group 1 winner Samadoubt is more than deserving of a spot in the $4.5 million All-Star Mile as he eyes a return to the track next month.

The six-year-old gelding won the 1400-metre Winx Stakes in the spring and backed up that shock victory to beat Avilius in the 1600m group 2 Chelmsford.

Baker said that form would make the son of Not A Single Doubt more than competitive after nominations for the race closed on Thursday.

"It's definitely on the radar," Baker said of the All-Star Mile.

"He was very, very good in the spring, particularly effective around that mile mark so I think I'd love to get him down there.

"He won't be far off on form, that's for sure. He was very consistent throughout the spring."

Baker said Samadoubt would trial next week with plans to kick off in the group 2 Expressway Stakes at Rosehill on February 1.

Owned by syndicator Darby Racing, Baker hoped his stable star would attract enough votes to get into the race.

"I'm pretty sure there'll be enough on their books and he's got a pretty big syndicate himself so for sure that would be a positive," he said.

Baker also nominated Irithea, who runs on Saturday in the fillies and mares 1300m Magic Millions race.

"She's going very well," he said.

"She was good in the winter. She came fourth in the [group 1] Kingsford-Smith so on her day she's right up to it but I think she's going better than she ever has."
