Darby Racing enjoy great success in the 2016 Golden Slipper
What an honor and thrill it was last Saturday to have two runners in the 2016 Golden Slipper stakes for 2YO's. The $3million 2YO race is one of the hardest races to not only qualify for but to win. Darby Racing lined up with two fillies both with each way chances - Scarlet Rain for Gai Waterhouse and Yankee Rose for David Vandyke. Both fillies were undefeated!
The result was at two ends of the spectrum with Yankee Rose (photo below) storming home into 2nd collecting $620,000 for her owners and Scarlet Rain being pulled up in last place after reported breathing issues by jockey Tommy Berry.
Scarlet Rain went into the race on the back of some outstanding form after winning the Group 2 Sweet Embrace stakes the start before, she is an outstanding filly that just didn't have things go her way on Saturday however has given her fantastic owners the ride of a life time so far and it only has just begun. Scarlet Rain will return in the spring as a dominate 3YO sprinting filly - watch this space
Yankee Rose defied all the experts in the Golden Slipper by storming home into 2nd placing, first up from a spell and trained to perfection David Vandyke. Yankee Rose ridden by Zac Purton, according to Zac, should have just about won had it not been for the whip rules as she finds so much under pressure. This was a dream result for her terrific owners as she took her earnings just shy of $800,000 from just 3 starts with plenty more to come. Yankee Rose gets her chance to win a Group 1 when she lines up next week in the $1million Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m - She looks very hard to beat!
Congratulations to all the owners of both Scarlet Rain and Yankee Rose - 2 highly talented fillies that look set to continue racing at the very top - A DREAM RESULT
