Darby Racing’s phenomenal run of success rolled on at Wyong on Sunday, with a brilliant winning double that showcased the depth of talent coming through our stable. Partnering with star trainer Bjorn Baker and red-hot jockey Dylan Gibbons, both victories were stamped with class and excitement for the future.

The day began in stunning fashion with Nkosi, a recent recruit to the Darby Racing team and formerly trained in New Zealand. Having raced just four times across the Tasman, Nkosi wasted no time making his mark in Australia, powering away to score by an impressive four lengths at his first start for new owners. The lightly raced son of Cox Plate hero Shamus Award oozed quality in his debut performance, and all signs point to a huge future in Australian racing.

Not to be outdone, the lightly raced and highly talented Shirvington produced a performance full of grit and determination to bring up the Darby Racing double. Trapped three and four wide for the entire journey, Shirvington dug deep and refused to give in, surging late to snatch victory right on the line. The son of Capitalist has now won three of his five starts, underlining the ability and fighting spirit that has him earmarked for bigger races to come.

Adding to the excitement, Shirvington is a half-brother to Darby Racing sprint star Malkovich, highlighting a family brimming with speed and quality. Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden to perfection by Dylan Gibbons, Shirvington’s victory was another sign of his immense potential.

A huge congratulations to both sets of winning owners — your horses have announced themselves as serious talents and the Darby Racing team is thrilled to share the journey with you.

Coming off a record-breaking season, Darby Racing has already notched up six wins in August, setting the tone for what promises to be an even bigger and better season ahead. With horses like Nkosi and Shirvington flying the flag, the future has never looked brighter.
